After seeing the devastating impact that the COVID-19 pandemic had on communities while working in Elsies River during lockdown, director Ryan Africa decided to trade in his first birthday celebration to feed the vulnerable.

After his working day, Ryan, his team and a group of volunteers prepared 250 meals to feed the children on the streets of Elsies River. They enjoyed mince curry and rice, while volunteers helped them practice social distancing and adhere to safety protocols.

Thereafter, there was more than enough to feed another community in Mitchell's Plain, where Ryan is from.

"Lockdown left many without work, and I am privileged to have been able to work throughout, so I decided to share my privilege with the many people I saw on a daily basis, but didn't have a meal. It was rewarding to see the gratitude."

In future, Electraholic plans to make this a regular initiative, reaching out to as many communities across Cape Town as possible.
